Burning Down by Rick Hartford

Thick black smoke claws into the sky. Sirens throb through the alley. A police car slides round a corner, its blue red lights bouncing left and right. Throw the car in as close as you can and move quickly. Check the shutter speed and the ISO as you go. Serendipity and luck. Men at an iron fence point to the flames, searching for a way in. We could climb it, but that's a last resort. A woman to the left signals to her door. We rush into an apartment building and down a dark corridor. Her white shirt flits ahead in the blackness. She scrabbles with a door knob at the back and pushes to reveal a building across the way. Burning down. You see the firemen moving toward the flames, wincing as they push against the heat. Knights, in their shining armor, here to slay the dragon.
